Are you a broken person? Is your heart broken by hurtful things people said and did? Or by the absence of positive comments and actions they didn’t say or do? Are you struggling with self-esteem and confidence because your parents didn’t build that in you or because of your failures or lack of abilities? Have you been rejected? Are you being persecuted? Are you discouraged about your fading appearance and abilities as you age? God deeply loves and cherishes you! There is hope for you in Jesus Christ for all of these painful circumstances that make us broken people! God can still use you!
God Often Chooses the Weak to Confound (Shame) the Wise
First Corinthian 1:26-31 from the Bible (King James Version) gives us great hope:
For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. And because of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
God Will Help the Humble
Are you a broken person? Let me share more scriptures with you to comfort you. Psalm 9:12b-14 tells us, “He forgetteth not the cry of the humble. Have mercy upon me, O LORD; consider my trouble which I suffer of them that hate me, Thou that liftest me up from the gates of death; That I may shew forth all Thy praise in the gates of the daughter of Zion: I will rejoice in Thy salvation.” If you want God to help you, then humble yourself before God and cry out to Him for joy and deliverance from attacks of the Satan, the devil, and people. He will answer you!
God Will Help the Needy, Motherless, and Fatherless
Further down in Psalm 9, in verses 17-18, we read, “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. For the needy shall not always be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever.” If you surrender yourself to God and Jesus Christ, He will surely not forget you! God promises Israel and any believers in Jesus Christ, “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.” Were you an unwanted baby or do you think you might have been one? Did your mother neglect you? Did you get separated from your mother and feel abandoned? Even if your mother wasn’t there for you as much as you wanted or maybe not at all, God will not forget you! Did you grow up without your father? God will not forget you! He will be your Father if you give your heart and life to Him! Psalm 68:5-6 encourages, “A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in His holy habitation.” Are you poor in spirit or poor in finances? Psalm 10:14b encourages us with this: “Thou hast seen it; for Thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with Thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto Thee; Thou art the helper of the fatherless.”
God Will Help the Oppressed
Are you a broken person? Are you oppressed? Psalm 10:16-18 gives us this hope: “The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of His land. LORD, Thou hast heard the desire of the humble: Thou wilt prepare their heart, Thou wilt cause Thine ear to hear; To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.” God will judge your cause! He will deliver you from your oppressor in His perfect timing! You can count on God to defend you! You may experience some sufferings, but God will comfort you while you wait! He will come to your aid! He will avenge for you, although Jesus instructs us to pray for our enemies. James 2:13 says, “For He shall have judgment without mercy, who hath shown no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.” Jesus told His disciples and us in Matthew 5:44-45,
You have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love Thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
The Psalms are full of promises of God’s helping you when you are oppressed but following God. Psalm 18:46-50 is such an example:
The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me. He delivereth me from mine enemies; yea, Thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: Thou hast delivered me from the violent man. Therefore will I give thanks unto Thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto Thy name. Great deliverance giveth He to His king; and sheweth mercy to His anointed, to David, and to His seed for evermore.
Hallelujah!
God Will Use Those Broken to Pride and the Pride of Life to Feed the Spiritually Hungry
Are you a broken person? Is your pride and pride of life being broken? God finds a special beauty in those broken to their own pride. Psalm 51:17 says, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.”
In Matthew 14:14-21, we read this beautiful story about how Jesus fed the multitude:
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and He healed their sick. And when it was evening, His disciples came to Him, saying, This is a desert place, and the time is now past; send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves victuals [food]. But Jesus said unto them, They need not depart; give ye them to eat. And they say unto Him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes. He said, Bring them hither to me. And He commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, He blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to His disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full. And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.
In Jesus’ hands, you may feel small and insignificant, like the boy’s lunch in this story. However, God can use you to feed the multitude! However, first He will bless you with His salvation and Presence. Then He will break you of pride, like He blessed the loaves and fishes and broke them before distributing them to the multitudes. Be encouraged, however. He loves you so much! Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 10:31, “Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” You, my friend, are more value to Him than many sparrows and certainly more than loaves of bread!
God Can Use Those With Low Self-Esteem and Change Them into Mighty Men and Women
Gideon in the book of Judges in the Bible was a man who had a low self-esteem. An angel of the Lord, speaking for God, told Gideon, “The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour. Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?” (see Judges 6:12, 14). Gideon argued that God hadn’t rescued Israel lately and added, “Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house” (Judges 6:15). I encourage you to read the whole story about Gideon in Judges chapters 6-8. If you don’t have a Bible, you can read the Bible in English in any translation at https://biblegateway.com. Just type Judges 6-8 in the search bar on this website.
Are you a broken person? Do you have a low confidence like Gideon? Are you poor and lightly esteemed by people like Gideon? God can use you, just like He did Gideon! As you pray and read the Bible, God can make you a mighty man or woman of valor! He can use you in His great commission to lead people in the world to Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world!
Gideon formed an army, and God said it was too big. So God showed Gideon how to pare his army down to 300. That looked like not enough people in the natural realm to defeat the Midianites. However, God wanted to be sure to get the glory due Him for helping them win over the Midianites. Gideon himself wasn’t too sure about their ability to win. It looked foolish in the natural realm to go to war with that few people against the multitudes of Midianites. Upon God’s suggestion, Gideon and his servant Phurah sneaked down into the camp of the Midianites where Gideon overheard a man tell a dream to his friend in Judges 7:13b-14:
…Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along. And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand God delivered Midian, and all the host.
Gideon was encouraged by hearing this dream, and you can read how they actually did win the war with torches, pitchers, and trumpets. They didn’t even own any swords because the Midianites had taken them all! Truly God did a great miracle through Gideon who was compared to a cake of barley bread! Again, God used the foolish things of this world to confound the wise! Do you feel like Gideon, a cake of barley bread? Insecure? Do the odds look like they are stacked against you? Does victory look impossible? God will use you in your weakened state so that He gets the glory due Him!
God Can Use Those with Spiritual Thorns in Their Flesh and Other Trials
Are you a broken person? God told the apostle Paul after he asked God to remove a spiritual thorn in his flesh [a messenger of Satan] from him three times,
…”My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. [Paul’s response:] Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak then am I strong.
Do you feel weak? Is a spiritual thorn digging into your side like Paul had? Are you facing reproaches, necessities, persecutions, and distresses for Christ’s sake? Do not fret! These things will not defeat you! God can use you best when you realize you need Him! ***All these trials are, in fact, PREPARATION FOR YOUR CALLING! People and circumstances cannot defeat your spiritual purpose in life when you are crying out to God to fulfill it. No one can or will revoke it! Romans 11:29 says, “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.” God will not change His mind about your belonging to Him or about fulfilling your spiritual purpose for being alive! Give God thanks that the power of Christ may rest upon you in your weakened state! God cannot use us very effectively when we are depending upon ourselves and glorying in our flesh anyway. 🙂
God Can Use the Aging
If you feel discouraged about your fading appearance and abilities, find hope in this promise from God in Psalm 92:14, speaking of the righteous, those who put their trust in God through Jesus Christ: “They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, ‘The LORD is upright; He is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in Him.'” Also, take heart that your inner beauty can grow daily even while your outer beauty is fading! Second Corinthians 4:7 and 16 say, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us….For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.” What is that treasure in your earthen vessel, your body? It is the very Presence of God, the anointing of the Holy Spirit, a measure of the glory of God! Jesus is the Light inside of you! As you pray and read the Bible, you will grow in wisdom, which is beautiful in the sight of God! Like Solomon told his bride in Song of Solomon 6:5, “Turn away thine eyes from me, for they have overcome me,” Jesus could one day say this to you when you have eyes filled with His Spirit, filled with love for Him, and filled with devotion to Him! Wow!!! The possibility is definitely there!!!
Your Future is Bright, Child of God!
No matter how lousy your life has been in many ways, your future, child of God, will get brighter and brighter! Proverbs 4:18 promises those who believe in Jesus and obey Him, “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” Second Corinthians 3:18 gives us this delightful encouragement: “But we all, with uncovered face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image, from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” Wow! God is on your side! No matter what people have said or not said or have done or not done, the Holy Spirit is growing you from glory to glory!!! Similarly, Jeremiah 29:11 gives us this hope: “For I [God] know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thought of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” The New American Standard Bible says in this verse that God will give you a future and a hope. You have a beautiful future ahead! You have hope! As you cling to God, you have purpose that can’t be thwarted by the devil or people! Hallelujah!
If You Need to Cry…
Are you a broken person? If you need to cry, go ahead and empty your pain before the throne of grace. God is there to show you loving compassion and empathy. Jesus has been broken. He understands and weeps with you. Let the tears flow and cleanse your soul of the heartache. Psalm 30:5 says, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.” Your joy is on the way!
In Closing
Are you a broken person? God and Jesus love you so much unconditionally, in spite of your inadequacies and struggles! His love isn’t earned based on your performance and achievements! HE LOVES WHO YOU ARE! If you believe that Jesus Christ, the only begotten and perfect Son of God, died on a cross about 2,000 years ago for the forgiveness of each and every human, and if you have asked Him for forgiveness for the wrongs you have done, you are delivered from the wrath of God. Pray to God to heal you of your brokenness. He will not leave you in that state. He will make you whole! If you believe in Jesus Christ as your personal Savior from the wrath of God, pray this with me:
“God, please tear down any stronghold of shame inside of me. Show me who I am in Your love. Pluck out any hurtful words or actions that wounded me. Satan (the devil), go away from me in Jesus’ Name. I am accepted in the Beloved. Lord, please show me who I am as a loved child of God and bride of Jesus. Fill any vacancies in my heart with Your love. Comfort me about my insufficiencies. I believe You will still use me. Please deliver me from my persecutors. Please provide for all of my financial needs to accomplish Your will and meet all of my expenses. Most of all, fill my heart and eyes with the Holy Spirit, love for You, and devotion to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
If you don’t yet know Jesus, you can begin to know Him right now. Pray this with me, “Lord Jesus, I believe You died on the cross about 2,000 years ago for the forgiveness of my wrongdoings. Please forgive me. Come into my heart with Your Holy Spirit and help me to live for You. Take me to heaven when my life is over on earth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
Find a good church to go to where you can get closer to God by attending regularly. Pray to obtain a Bible and read it daily. You have made the best decision ever, and you have just begun an awesome journey with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. All three are God, the only God, like an egg has three parts: yoke, white, and shell.
If you prayed this, please let me know! 🙂
God bless you, beloved of the Lord!
