Are You Waiting on God?

Are you waiting on God?  How can you know that He will answer your prayers?  I wanted to include this with the last post but didn’t want to make it too long.  So here is part 2!

Is God My Main Pursuit?

First thing is to ask God, “Are You my main pursuit?”  If so, we can be sure He will answer our heart’s desires.  Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart.” (New American Standard Bible)

Did We Ask God?

Second, did we ask God?  James 4:2b says, “You do not have because you do not ask” (NASB).  So often we, I included, go without blessings simply because we do not bother to ask God to bless us!  God likes to be asked!  He is the ultimate Giver!!!  James 1:17 says, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (New International Version)

Is What I Am Wanting His Will for Me?

Third, ask the Lord, “Is what I am wanting Your will for me?”  If we can answer yes to that question, then we can be sure that God will give us our requests.  In 1 John 5:14-15 it says, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” (New King James Version)

Am I Asking for a Blessing for the Right Reasons?

Fourth, inquire of Him, “Am I asking for a blessing for the right reasons?”  James 4:3 says, “Ye [You] ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”  Do we have impure motives for asking for something?  For example, do we ask for an expensive sports car because we want to impress others?  –Or do we ask for the car of His choice so that we may tend to our and/or our family’s needs and use that car to serve God?  Having the correct motive is so important!  If we feel convicted our motive is wrong, we simply ask God to forgive and cleanse us and put within us His dreams.  First John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins [wrongs we have done], He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Do I Have Faith for What He Wants for Me?

Fifth, seek God, “Do I have faith for what You want for me?”  Hebrews 12:2  tells us that Jesus is the “author and perfecter of faith.”  You cannot work up faith.  Yes, memorizing scriptures will help our faith to grow, and I highly recommend that.  Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh [comes] by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (King James Version).  Memorizing scripture is great, too.  However, true faith comes from the Author of Faith, Jesus. What God gives you faith for, He will give you!  In Hebrews 6:12, God advises us “that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.”  Patience is waiting on God.  In Romans 10:11 we find, “For the Scripture says, ‘WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM [GOD] WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.'”

Do You Lack Faith?

Do you lack faith?  Ask God for it!  He will gladly give it to you!  Wait on God with faith.  He will not disappoint you!!!

Update on Me

Remember I told you last week in “Waiting on God Part 1” that I was waiting on God to sing and play the piano at my church?  Well, glory be to God, I DID sing and play Sunday!!!  God gave me that desire of my heart.  May He continue to heal my throat from laryngitis.  I know He will!  He will continue to give me the desires of my heart!  He will continue to give me every good and perfect gift!  I am asking according to His will, and I pray I have the right motives.  God hears me, and He will continue to give me the petitions I have asked of Him!  The Author of my faith, He will also perfect it!  He will NOT disappoint me!!!
